Your mission :
The EPFL School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) is seeking a postdoctoral scientist in the field of data-driven and socio-technical analysis of urban energy use. The position is part of the ETH-Domain funded project “Urban Twin” which seeks to develop a tool containing a detailed model of critical urban infrastructure (energy, water, buildings, mobility) as well as underlying socio-economic and environmental drivers and their interdependencies. Your task will be to leverage urban-scale data (e.g. sensors, surveys) to understand the linkages between behavior and energy consumption in the context of energy flexibility and other urban systems (e.g. water). The position will be based at the ETHOS Lab (Civil Engineering and Technology for Human-Oriented Sustainability) and include collaborations with other members of the Urban Twin project at EPFL and other institutions of the ETH Domain. ETHOS is located at EPFL Fribourg and the Smart Living Lab.

ETHOS is a new EPFL lab that centers on:

  • Data-driven engineering and design
  • Incorporating the social and human perspective in design and management of the built environment
  • Advancing environmental sustainability objectives in the built environment
  • Implementing studies in real-world testbeds

Main duties and responsibilities include :

  • Original research in the area of data-driven and socio-technical analysis of energy use, energy-related behaviors, energy flexibility, and linkages to other urban systems (e.g. water).
  • Collaboration and coordination with other Urban Twin research areas
  • Project management, including managing data collection
  • Leading and contributing to publications in high-impact journals
  • Participating in and presenting at international conferences
  • Mentoring ETHOS students

Your profile :

  • PhD in related field (or near completion)
  • Strong data science, data analysis, and programming skills
  • Experience with data-driven research
  • Strong publication recordInterest in human-centered and sustainable design of the built environment
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English in an academic setting
